The Venus Optics 'Laowa' 11mm f/4.5 is a small and lightweight ultra-wide-angle lens, suitable for landscape photographers who want to capture extremely wide angle images without being weighed down by heavy equipment. The build quality is good, with a metallic feel throughout the lens, and it is small and compact, making it easy to carry around. However, the lens does have some drawbacks. The maximum aperture of only f/4.5 means shooting in darker places will require the use of high ISO levels, and the corners of the images can be quite soft with some color fringing on high-resolution full-frame cameras. The lens is also prone to strong distortion and vignetting and is not designed for close-up photography. On the positive side, the lens is sharp with excellent image quality in the middle of the images, and it can accept 62mm filters, which is astonishing for a lens with such an extreme wide angle. It is also a fun lens to use, as it gets extremely dramatic images and can capture close-up shots with nice and sharp image quality. The overall image quality is very good on APS-C cameras, and the lens performs well against bright lights. However, the lens has some drawbacks such as soft corners and some color fringing on high-resolution full-frame cameras, strong distortion, and vignetting, and its inability to capture smooth bokeh due to the extremely wide angle and dark aperture.

The lens is sharp, with excellent image quality in the middle of the images, and it can accept 62mm filters, which is astonishing for a lens with such an extreme wide angle.
