Hanimex 28mm f/2.8 Review

10

The Hanimex 28mm f/2.8 lens is a complete disappointment, with poor image quality, strong flaring, and terrible bokeh. It is definitely not worth the price, even as a budget lens from the 1980s.

This is easily the worst lens I think I've tested, failing miserably at every test I put it through. I am surprised that optics could be this poor even in the 1980s, and I'm gutted to think that someone, possibly a member of my family, actually paid a price for it at some time or another.

Pros
  • Metal build
  • Smooth manual focus ring
Cons
  • Poor image quality
  • Strong flaring
  • Terrible bokeh

The image quality is absolutely useless, with almost no contrast at all and a very cool color cast to it.

The Hanimex 28mm f/2.8 lens is a complete disappointment, with poor image quality, strong flaring, and terrible bokeh. Despite being a budget lens from the 1980s, it falls short in almost every aspect. The lens lacks contrast, sharpness, and has a very cool color cast at its widest aperture of f/2.8. As the aperture is stopped down, the sharpness slightly improves but the corners remain subpar. Vignetting and distortion are also noticeable, and the lens struggles to maintain good image quality, even when getting close to the subject. The lens shows strong flaring and struggles against bright light. The bokeh is particularly ugly and the lens fails throughout all the tests. Overall, it is a lens that doesn't stand the test of time and is a poor investment, even as a budget option from the past.

It's not that easy to get good out of focus backgrounds with a 28mm F 2.8 lens, but when you do, they look particularly busy and really ugly.
