The Canon EF-S 10-22mm USM lens is a versatile option for wide-angle photography with its zoom range of 10 to 22 millimeters, equivalent to 16 to 35mm, making it suitable for various wide-angle uses. The aperture brightness of f/3.5 to f/4.5 allows for decent performance in various lighting conditions. Despite being nearly 20 years old, this lens still holds its own with good copies available on the market at affordable prices. The build quality features all the hallmarks of a classic Canon optic with a metallic mount and useful auto/manual switch, but it lacks weather sealing and image stabilization. The ultrasonic focus works quickly and quietly, and the rubberized zoom operates smoothly. However, the lens does not feature its own image stabilization, and the rear of the lens shows some warping in the corners when zoomed in. In terms of image quality, the lens delivers sharpness and contrast in the center at wider apertures, with softness and lower contrast in the corners. Distortion correction and vignetting control are well-handled, and the lens performs nicely in close-up shots. The Canon EF-S 10-22mm USM lens is recommended for stills on an EOS R7 due to its sharp image quality, and it can also be a good option for 4K video work.
