Dell G7 7700 Review
75
The Dell G7 gaming laptop has a good build quality and a decent average screen. The performance is good, but it can run quite hot with GPU and CPU thermal throttle limits hit. The keyboard, touchpad, and speakers were fine, and the IO selection was fairly good. The battery life was very good for a machine of these specs.
The performance in games is similar to other similarly spec'd laptops, but the internal temperatures could be an issue.
Pros
- Good build quality
- Decent average screen
- Good performance
- Very good battery life
Cons
- Can run quite hot with GPU and CPU thermal throttle limits hit
- Sharp corners
- High internal temperatures
- Performance could be affected by high temperatures
The battery life was very good for a machine of these specs.
The Dell G7 gaming laptop has a new version for 2020. The laptop is made out of aluminum and plastic with a matte black finish, giving it a smooth and lightweight feeling. Although the build quality is fair, some sharp corners were found. The display is a 17.3 inch 1080p screen with average color brightness and contrast ratio, but good response time. The keyboard, touchpad, and speakers were all fine, and the IO selection was fairly good. The battery life was very good for a machine of these specs, and the front light bar is a personal preference. However, the laptop can run quite hot with GPU and CPU thermal throttle limits hit like many other G series machines. The performance in games is similar to other similarly spec'd laptops, but the internal temperatures could be an issue. Overall, the Dell G7 is a decent gaming laptop, but expect temperatures to rise when loading up in the highest performance modes.
