ASUS Scar II (GL504GS) Review
85
The ASUS Scar II Gaming Laptop is an impressive machine, offering great performance and full use of the CPU with some under-volting under stress tests. The thin bezel 144Hz screen looks fantastic and is a great match for the NVIDIA 1070. The build is solid and the design is good, but the battery life could be better.

The ASUS Scar II Gaming Laptop is an impressive machine, offering great performance and the ability to get full use out of the Intel i7 CPU with some under-volting under stress tests. The 15.6 inch 1080p 144Hz IPS screen with thin bezels provides a great visual experience, perfectly complemented by the NVIDIA 1070. The build is solid, with a gray brushed metal lid and carbon fiber texture, but the overall design might not be to everyone's taste. The battery life is not great, and the fact that the battery still drains while gaming is disappointing. There is no option to swap to Intel graphics, which would have been a nice feature. The laptop's thin and lightweight design makes it a portable machine, and the 720p camera, although oddly placed at the bottom right, is functional. The keyboard is backlit with RGB lighting and has a quiet, tactile feel. The touchpad is smooth and responsive. The laptop features a wide range of ports and good quality speakers, but the placement of the 3.5 watt speakers on the sides can make sound a little muffled at high volumes. The build quality feels solid, with smudge-proof surfaces and visible smudges that are easy to wipe away.In terms of performance, the laptop delivers excellent results in gaming across different titles, running smoothly at high settings. However, the battery life is a letdown, and the laptop tends to discharge even when plugged in. While the laptop's fan noise is noticeable, it is quite good for an 8th gen i7-8750H laptop, with less thermal throttling compared to many others. The thin bezel 144Hz screen with NVIDIA 1070 offers great visuals, with the option for overclocking providing a little extra performance without any significant improvements. Overall, the ASUS Scar II is a powerful gaming laptop with a few minor drawbacks.
