The Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD lens is a great value for the price, offering fast maximum aperture, good image quality, and compact size. It has some vignetting and distortion, but overall it is a fantastic lens for the price. The build quality is surprisingly good, making it easy to carry around and use. While the full-time manual focusing may not be ideal for everyone, the autofocus is quick and accurate. The image quality is impressive, with good sharpness and minimal chromatic aberration, especially at wider angles. However, some softness is observed at 15mm. The lens allows for close-up shots, but the close-up image quality is a bit on the soft side. Vignetting and distortion are noticeable, but they are within acceptable limits. The bokeh is generally smooth, but complex backgrounds may appear busy. The sad lack of image stabilization could be a drawback for video work, but for still photographers, the F/2.8 maximum aperture compensates. Overall, it's a lovely camera lens and a great upgrade to a kit lens, especially for those looking for excellent value.
