It's wide range of 10 to 24 millimeter is handy but also it's rewarding when you do get sharper pictures out of it. If you want a similar lens but better, then the Canon 10 to 22 millimeter 3.5 to 4.5 is a close equivalent to this lens.
Pros
- Affordable
- Versatile zoom range
- Fun to use
- Good value for the price
Cons
- Softness and chromatic aberration at wider apertures
- Slow and noisy autofocus motor
- Build quality feels slightly cheap
- Distortion at both ends of the zoom range
The build quality is decent but feels slightly cheap, although it balances well on most cameras.
The Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 lens is designed to offer an affordable ultra wide-angle option for APS-C cameras with a versatile zoom range from 10mm to 24mm. While it has some image quality issues, including softness and chromatic aberration at wider apertures and distortion at both ends of the zoom range, it still provides a fun shooting experience and good value for the price. The lens does not have image stabilization, and the autofocus motor is a bit slow and noisy. The build quality is decent but feels slightly cheap, although it balances well on most cameras. The manual focus ring may feel stiff on older versions of the lens. Overall, while the lens has its drawbacks, it still offers a wide range of focal lengths and can be rewarding to use despite its image quality issues.
The picture quality of this lens leaves a bit to be desired. You have to stop it down to about f/8 to get sharp pictures and it shows too much chromatic aberration. It's also below average when working with bright lights.
