Sony E 24mm f/1.8 ZA Review

90

The Sony E 24mm f/1.8 ZA is a bit pricey for an APS-C lens but delivers excellent build quality and image quality. It has a smooth manual focus ring, silent autofocus, and can focus very closely on subjects. However, it does suffer from some color fringing and vignetting, and there is noticeable smearing in the corners when working in bright light.

I was actually really impressed with its performance even all these years later. It has aged really well and delivers sharp pictures while being really cool at the same time.

Pros
  • Excellent build quality
  • Smooth manual focus ring
  • Silent and accurate autofocus
  • Ability to focus very closely on subjects
Cons
  • Color fringing and vignetting at wider apertures
  • Noticeable smearing in the corners in bright light

I'm not quite sure if I'd pay eight hundred dollars for a prime lens with an f/1.8 aperture, but putting aside its price, the Sony E 24mm f/1.8 ZA still has to come highly recommended.

The Sony E 24mm f/1.8 ZA is a lens that has accumulated a strong reputation over the years, and it still holds up well in 2022. Despite its high cost for an APS-C lens, its build quality is excellent with a small metallic body and smooth manual focus ring. The autofocus is silent and accurate, and the lens can focus very closely on subjects, providing good contrast and sharpness. However, at wider apertures, there is some color fringing and vignetting, and noticeable smearing in the corners when working in bright light. Overall, it is a strong performer with some minor drawbacks.

The lens has a smooth manual focus ring and silent autofocus, delivering sharp pictures while being really cool at the same time.
