Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 Review
84
The Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 is a small, lightweight, and solid lens that provides sharp image quality and enjoyable 75mm focal length. It has a few drawbacks, but overall, it is a very likable lens.
Overall, it's an extremely likable lens for a variety of reasons. It's small in size, has low solid build, sharp image quality, and an enjoyable 75mm focal length, making it a little bit of a winner today in 2023. It's just not very competitive for one key reason - it can't quite compete with the also new 75mm F1.2, which has literally twice as bright, sharper optics, much better quality, and all for the same price.
Pros
- Small and lightweight
- Solid image quality
- Nice build quality
- Enjoyable 75mm focal length
Cons
- Aperture switch doesn't work well in video mode
- No image stabilization
- Average performance against light
- Not very competitive with other lenses at the same price point
The build quality is nice, with a large and customizable control ring, although the aperture switch doesn't work well in video mode.

The build quality is nice, with a large and customizable control ring, although the aperture switch doesn't work well in video mode. The autofocus works silently and quickly, and the lens comes with a plastic hood and a tight little case. However, it doesn't have image stabilization. The image quality is good, with sharpness and contrast at f/1.8, and very sharp at f/2.8. There is very little vignetting and virtually no distortion. The lens works decently against light, with some visible flaring, and the bokeh is just okay at f/1.8, but mostly gone at f/2.8. Overall, it is a very nice lens, but it can't compete with the 75mm F 1.2 for the same price.
