The lens is impressively sharp for a 12-year-old optic, and it captures smooth, out-of-focus backgrounds with a heavy rendering. Its range makes it ideal as a one-lens solution for holidays or travel.

The lens can focus as closely as 38mm to your subject, and the image quality remains very good at close distances at f5.6 and at f8. It performs well against bright light, with low vignetting and distortion. The lens is impressively sharp for a 12-year-old optic, and it captures smooth, out-of-focus backgrounds with a heavy rendering. Its range makes it ideal as a one-lens solution for holidays or travel. The lens is a bit pricey at 600 pounds, but it is a brilliant zoom lens nonetheless and is highly recommended.

You won’t get the same high-quality images with a super zoom lens, but I’m pleased with it. It is rather brilliant.
